Summer Makeup Routine

Summer usually means more sun, less makeup. Summer, really, relies on protective skin care more than it does on makeup. But since I can’t go to class looking like a zombie, I usually apply less makeup than I would on a non-summer day.

Review: NARS Blush in Amour

I’m a cliche as I type this: I have red lipstick on and I’m currently munching on an apple. I’m surrounded by seven colleagues, all of whom are dudes. I wouldn’t be surprised if I’d be out cold in a while. I want my prince. Ahem.

Anyhow, my addiction continues. I’ve collected and used a fair number of foundations, lipsticks, eyeshadows and now I’m attracted to blushes. I had no problems deciding what brand to turn to when it came to blushes; I went straight to NARS. After all, they claim to be “the ultimate authority in blush”.

No, I was not after NARS Orgasm. Honestly? I think it’s a tad overhyped… or I’m just being sour ‘cuz it doesn’t really show up on me.

With the blushes that I do have, I realized two things: (1) Shimmer aggravates the spots on my cheeks and (2) Mattes last longer. TheBalm’s Hot Mama works fine, but it’s got the shimmer that I was trying to avoid. And I was looking for a particular shade, a peach/pink that I can use everyday.

Needless to say, my first blush from NARS did not disappoint. In fact, it even sparked an obsession with NARS blushes; look, I already have three!

Amour, Dolce Vita and Luster

For now, I’ll only talk about the first blush. My first NARS blush: NARS Amour.

Haul: Benefit + NARS

I was not the most cheerful person today (or rather, yesterday – April 13). Was more than sullen, actually; I was downright contemptuous. It only lasted 24 hours, don’t worry.. So what’s a force of nature girl to do on a payday? Not much. Splurge, maybe?

It certainly was  helpful. I was feeling so much better after I got my loot.

Burn, Baby... BURN.

I’ve been watching Essie (www.essiebutton.com) on youtube for a while and I thought she’s pretty funny. Anywhoo, she mentioned some of these products:

  • NARS Luster blush
  • Benefit Creaseless Cream Eyeshadow

… and I thought to try ‘em out. I only have one item from Benefit (the concealaholic kit) and I sorta wanna try out their other stuff so instead of getting a MAC Paint Pot as I had initially planned, I thought of checking out their cream eyeshadows as I don’t own any of those.

I bought two: Birthday Suit and Samba-dy Loves Me. What? No judgement. It’s retail therapy, people. Besides, their SAs (I went to Shang) are really nice!

And the other one.. well, I’m addicted to NARS blushes. Again, no judgement.

I caannot wait to try ‘em out. Maybe tomorrow when I’m off to the Heat Wave Bazaar at World Trade Center. Reviews to follow!

Review: NARS Sheer Glow

By the time I finally sit down and start writing this post, it means I’m done procrastinating.

So. Payday is coming up, and surprisingly enough, there is nothing on my wishlist. Well, technically there are a few eyeshadow and lipstick shades and maybe an expensive foundation or a PRO brush set, but they don’t have the same pull, the same strong lemming as the one product that I managed to buy a few weeks back: NARS Sheer Glow.

NARS Sheer Glow Foundation (Barcelona)

Despite the price tag attached to it, this 30ml foundation is one of my best. investments. ever. If I’m reduced to culling my collection down to 25 items, this would definitely be one of ‘em.

Haul: NARS and MAC

It’s PAYDAY, so really, this post shouldn’t come as a surprise. Today, I covered two lemmings and one impulse buy.

there goes my salary

Readers (and close friends) of this blog and blogger would know what the number one thing in my wishlist is for months now. Finally, I couldn’t take it anymore; with an unintentional push from Liz and one notorious enabler, I finally killed the lemming and bought it: NARS Sheer Glow Foundation (Php 2450). Here’s what I don’t get: for something so pricey, you’d think that NARS would be nice enough to include the foundation pump, but no– they just had to milk it for what it’s worth (and it was worth Php 395). MAC suffers from the same greediness marketing strategy.

Also, I’ve been on the look out for my first contouring powder. It was a battle between a darker MAC Mineralized SkinFinish, MAC Matte Blush in Harmony, TheBalm Bahama Mama and NARS Laguna. Laguna and MAC MSF were eliminated because of the hefty price tags (both at Php 1800) that I couldn’t afford at the moment. I checked TheBalm and found out that Bahama Mama (Php 775) comes off as too muddy on me, surprisingly enough. Initially, I didn’t want to spend too much on a contouring powder that I won’t be using everyday but when I asked the MAC MUA/SA to try Harmony on me, I was sold. I bought Harmony for Php 1300.

I absolutely cannot wait to use these.

brain fodder

I dropped by Fully Booked Shang earlier to pick up an anthology with the quirkiest title I’ve ever seen: “There Once Lived a Woman Who Tried to Kill Her Neighbor’s Baby: Scary Fairytales” (Php 599) by Lundmilla Petrushevskaya. What a mouthful. And can I just say that I get a kick out of asking folks at bookstores for that title; they always think it’s a joke. Sasha once reviewed this book and it took me months to track it down. To tell you the truth, I’ve been looking for this even before I saw her review, when I did, I just became more determined and was eventually disappointed. It was on a whim that I asked Fully Booked BHS if they have a copy and they did so I asked them to have it transferred to Shang.

So, there you go. I’m going to stay at home this weekend as there’s the 3-day Sale at Megamall and Robinson’s Galleria decided to give ‘em some competition. Seriously, I just shelled out a total of Php 4100+. I don’t think I’ll be buying anything for a while.

Oh, and I have work to finish this weekend: a design, powerpoint presentations and a report. Sigh. Fine. This is the reason why I buy expensive stuff anyway.

Shopping ban, are you back?
