New Releases: Books I need on my shelf

After much (not-t’was a given, really) deliberation, I finally gave Ralston (NINE) a cookie and a place in my iPhone’s kindle after tossing aside TEN because I’ve had enough of it. Dear Nick St. John, I really appreciate you putting up a good fight but your partner in TEN bored the hell out of me.

And one does (and should) not keep Neil Gaiman sitting on the shelf for too long.

But hey, let’s talk books.

Summer Reads 2013

While everybody else is braving the heat at a beach somewhere, I’m currently holed up inside my house, trying to avoid the sun as much as possible. Ironically enough, I also wanted to avoid the gaggle of relatives who are also staying in for the Holy Week break so I set up my own little Do-Not-Disturb-Ate nook in the corner of our living room with a pile of books, a tall tumbler of water, a fan and two dogs sleeping at my feet.

Impressions: There Once Lived a Woman Who Tried to Kill Her Neighbor’s Baby

I’ve been reading a lot of fantasy books lately. I just finished Best Served Cold (Joe Abercrombie) and was reading the first two chapters of Among Thieves (Douglas Hulick), when I realized that it wasn’t sinking in! I recognized that as a sign that I need a break.

Introduction: Books and Reviews

Let’s take a break from the makeup and let me introduce the other half of this blog: books.

Come on, just look at the name!

Way before I got interested in foundations and lipsticks, I’ve always been a rather well-read person. Initially, I didn’t think that I was until my mentor pointed out, in class no less.

Trainee: I like to read books
Teach: What books do you like to read?
Trainee: The Twilight Series
Me: *snort* oh boy
Teach: You should try other books. Ask Sara for titles; she has excellent taste.

Kinda biased, really. A good 30% of the books I’ve read are recommendations from her. There was even a time when I’d be in college and I’d finish one book after another because every time I’d run into her, she’d always ask me what book I was reading and what my thoughts are.
